Greek Tidbit on Love

Ever heard that there are several Greek words for “love” and they are all different? It’s been well known for a while now that αγαπαω and φιλεω are virtually interchangeable. Barry Hofstetter noted, “For those who doubt that φιλέω and ἀγπάω may be used interchangeably… John 5:20 ὁ γὰρ πατὴρ φιλεῖ τὸν υἱὸν καὶ πάντα δείκνυσιν αὐτῷ ἃ αὐτὸς ποιεῖ.”
