Involvement in the global enterprise of following Christ always requires death in various shapes and sizes. Some will literally be asked to die (Jn 12:24), while others will be asked to die to selfishness, materialism, consumerism and all the other enemies of the Jesus-exalting gospel. Dietrich Bonhoeffer's most famous statement - "When Jesus calls a man, he bids him come and die" - urges us to take courage for the sake of Christ's kingdom. - Paul Borthwick

Being the Salt in the Earth

Salt, when dissolved in water, may disappear, but it does not cease to exist. We can be sure of its presence by tasting the water. Likewise, the indwelling Christ, though unseen, will be made evident to others from the love which he imparts to us.
